Some Sanskrit Subhashitam Translations
A good friend Dr Bhooshan Shukla posts Sanskrit Subhashitam, with meaning in English, on Facebook. Here are a few of them with my attempt at casting them in verses.
For weakling, its the chief
Lying is for thief
Strength of child is in wailing
Silence, fool shall keep
Forest fire is fierce, wind aids like a friend
Fire in the lamp though, it wipes like a fiend
Sigh, why a weakling, will anyone befriend?
Stolen it can not be, be emperor or burglar
Never inheritance woes, even with a brother
Accumulates as you spend, heard ever such a wonder?
Knowledge, my friend, is wealth in such a splendor!
Teeth fallen, and body unsound
hair white, that I get around
But a lass on street, calling me senior
is vicious attack, of many a spear
Knowledge left in books, and
money left with others
cease to be knowledge and money,
in the hour of need

पायाखाली चुरगाळलं तर;
